The two Daniels met at New York’s Manhattan School of Music, where they were the sole guitarists accepted for the Doctoral program. Since then, they have worked as a duo, focusing on expanding the guitar repertoire by means of nouvelle transcriptions. Now, these are finally available on disc. Recordings took place in Brazil and the USA, while post-production was made in Germany. The repertoire contains three major works from the piano literature previously unheard on guitar, featuring Beethoven, Chopin and Schubert.

On this CD, Argentinian guitarist Eduardo Castañera records Daniel’s Scordatura – Palindrome Suite for Guitar, in four movements: Ciranda, Ostinato, Noturno & Moda de Viola. Each movement utilizes a different tuning of the guitar (i.e., a different scordatura), which provides for a diverse harmonic treatment. The suite works somewhat as a palindrome, in the sense that the movements may be either performed in regular order (1-2-3-4) or in reverse order (4-3-2-1).P’al Sur was nominated for the Açorianos Prize for Best Performer in 2003.

In Porto 60, pianist Catarina Domenici records Daniel’s ToCatchita. The title ToCatchita is a play on words. The piece, composed in 2003, is dedicated to pianist Catarina Domenici, whose nickname is Catchita. As the piece was written to Catchita, it was named ToCatchita, a title which at the same time represents the diminutive of toccata, the genre of this work. Also included are works by Brazilian composers born in the 1960s.

Daniel’s ballet Quadressencias, which received wide public acclaim on its two sold-out seasons, has been released on DVD. Performed by the UCS Symphony Orchestra (cond. M.
